North Wales radio presenter to commentate on France v Wales for BBC Sport

Wales’ opening match in the 2018 European Championship this Saturday, will be shown live on BBC Sport, shown on the BBC website and connected televisions.

The Welsh travel to Carcassonne to take on France (kick-off 5pm BST) in a game that’s also part of the 2021 World Cup qualifiers, and commentary will be provided by North Wales based radio presenter Conrad Anderson, who will be assisted by Rugby League European Federation (RLEF) website manager James Vukmirovic.

Anderson, who is the anchor for the popular weekly “The Rugby League Show” on Calon FM in North Wales and also the regular game caller for North Wales Crusaders on that community station, has recently commentated on online broadcasts for the RFL which included England under 19’s home match against Wales a fortnight ago.

He has commentated on the full Wales side on radio in the past, but this will be his first foray into live television for Rugby League at the highest level and he can’t wait for the opportunity.

“I was delighted to receive a call from the RLEF yesterday to provide the commentary for France v Wales in the Rugby League European Championship and World Cup qualifiers,” said Anderson, who is also vice-chairman of the North Wales Origin side.

“The game is not only being streamed live on the BBC Red Button and online but will also be live on Fox League in Australia and probably in other countries around the world. I’m told there will be more opportunities for me as the competition progresses in the next two weeks.”

Vukmirovic, who was recently head of media operations at the Rugby League Under 19 European Championships, added: “One of the big reasons that I chose to go into journalism was to work up and become a sports commentator. It's the job I've always wanted.

“I'm about to realise this dream and make my commentary debut for the BBC this Saturday and I'm really excited about this opportunity.”
