WRL domestic leagues round-up

Aber Valley Wolves kicked off the 2019 WRL junior leagues with a quadruple header of matches, registering two wins and two defeats.

 

Ethan Paterson scored the historic first ever try at club U12 level in the WRL leagues system, grounding for Aber Valley Wolves Yellow in their 34-26 win over Torfaen Tigers.

In their U14 game against Torfaen, they were defeated 66-0 and their U12 Blue team also lost, going down 44-28 to Llanelli Knights.

However against Knights U14s, the Wolves were victorious 66-4.

At Sardis Road in Pontypridd, Rhondda Outlaws hosted a double header. Their U12 side beating Cardiff Blue Dragons 50-6 and their first team, in the opening game of this season's Premier League, beating Torfaen Tigers A 34-20.

It wasn't the best of weekends for Torfaen, their first team also lost, as Valley Cougars leapt above them at the top of the Southern Conference League table with a 30-22 win.

This was earned with an Adam Watton brace, a try and five goals by Mike Hurley and touchdowns for Shane Lee and Gashin King. Eaven Morris, Brett Thomas, Geoff Hick and Darrell Moyle replied for the Tigers, with Andrew Barlow, Hick and David Thomas adding a goal apiece.

Finally, Cardiff Blue Dragons lost 30-20 to the All Golds. The Gloucestershire side's victory was earned with tries by Joe Uren, Mason Robbins and Jack Uren. Dean Cooper and Brandon Lamb had crossed earlier, while Ash Lewis (4) and Josh Verity kicked the visitors’ goals. Karlin Claridge bagged a brace for the Blue Dragons and James Wickham, Duane Isles and Scott Walters popped in, although none of the hosts’ tries were converted.
