The North Wales Origin players put their hands up for Wales Dragonhearts selection after a comprehensive 48-16 win over the Premier League West side in Wrexham on Sunday.

This result means that the Premier League East side finished top of the table and will be presented with the WRL Origin trophy at a later date.

West changed just two from their draw a fortnight ago but North brought in seven new players following last week’s defeat to East and their presence made a big difference.

North took the lead on 15 minutes after Connah Harding broke through the West defence and Morgan Johnson converted.

They doubled their advantage 10 minutes later when Jonny Rae dived over and Johnson converted.

North were also defending well, keeping out a spirited West attack where Ben Jones was held up over the line.

And when North went back onto the attack, they got their third try through Billy Forrester that Johnson converted. West’s Rhodri Garland was sinbinned before the kick after disagreeing with the referee’s decision to award the try.

North were 18-0 up at half-time but West hit back early in the second half when Sam Pridgeon scored in the corner and Chris Harries converted well.

The home side soon addressed the balance. Dan Crabtree reached out to score and Ryan Griffiths converted.

Dylan Rowe soon followed him over with Griffiths converting again before being awarded a try of his own despite it looking like he’d been pulled back before grounding. He converted again.

Mark Jones pushed through for another try back for West which went unconverted, before Harding sprinted well to score under the sticks for his second of the day for North that Griffiths improved.

It wasn’t too late for West with Ben Jones getting another try back and Harries converting, but Ben Stelmaszek put the icing on the cake for North by breaking away for their eighth try with Griffiths again converting.
