Crusaders A team look to build on good season start

North Wales Crusaders' A side head into their fourth fixture of the season this Saturday when they travel to Wigan to face New Springs Lions (kick-off 2.30pm). Lions

Playing friendlies in the North West Counties League structure with a view to joining the competition next year, the Crusaders have already won two games out of three, going from strength to strength with both playing numbers and results on the field.

Head coach Matt Robinson said: “We were struggling in a couple of early games due to both unavailabilities and having a different core each week but with several new players coming on board. Now we have fielded a couple of strong sides over the last couple of weeks and the results are starting to come."

In their last game, they beat the previously unbeaten Thatto Heath Crusaders reserve side more convincingly than the 32-20 score line suggested.

Robinson added: "Our defence particularly on the try line was sublime. Given the fact that the defence has pretty well only had one training session together shows how good they are as individuals and how the combinations and organisation is starting to come together.

"The quality of the players particularly of the youngsters is further being recognised with several in the Welsh Students squad, one now training with the first team and another on a trial with Rochdale – all home grown Welsh talent."
