An outstanding performance by Wales against England was the highlight of the SRL Championships that were held in Wales.

The competition came down to the meeting on the final day as both sides came into the game unbeaten.

And in front of a large and partisan Aberavon crowd, Wales stormed home 38-4.

Masterminded by skipper Neil Davies, Wales dominated thanks to an outstanding kicking game which kept England in their own half for long periods.

After going 12-0 up in the first half, the Welsh continued to apply constant pressure to the battle weary English and tries from Karl Hocking (2), Shaun Williams, James Strover, Phil Carleton and Davies ensured a memorable night.

Wales coach Wayne Williams said: "It's a massive boost to the game. There are some high quality lads in the squad who could play professionally and now we're looking at getting four or five of them into the full Wales squad.

"The whole week was an outstanding success and it will have done us nothing but good in spreading the rugby league owrd in Wales. We had boys involved from four of the seven Welsh Conference sides and they will now go back to their clubs full of enthusiasm for the game."
