Evans eager to pull on the Welsh jersey again
You can have all the money in the world, but you can't buy going to play in a World Cup in Australia for your country. That's the view of Ben Evans.
The London Broncos forward, whose twin brother Rhys will miss the World Cup because of injury, last appeared for Wales at Rugby League World Cup 2013.
After four years since his last cap for the Dragons, the 24-year-old is eager to pull on the shirt again.
"I've missed out over the last couple of years through injury," Evans said.
"I'm always trying to play for Wales when I am fit.
"It's been a couple of years, but it's been great so far and I can't wait to get going.
"From the first day, we did a lot more video in terms of recording the sessions.
"The boys are all the same, but there are a few new faces who are in the squad and weren't here the last time I was.
"A World Cup in Australia... you can't buy that.
"You can have all the money in the world, but you can't buy going to play in a World Cup in Australia for your country."
Wales will travel to Papua New Guinea for their opening match, before facing Fiji in Townsville and Ireland in Perth.
On the three opponents, he said: "They're good squads and there are a few surprises in there.
"Each game is going to be hard as they're World Cup games and everybody is going to be putting everything out there.
"We need to take each game as it comes and take it from there."
Following the conclusion of Evans' contract at Warrington Wolves in 2016, he joined London Broncos ahead of the campaign just gone.
He was ever present in a side that mounted a strong promotion push to Super League, missing out on the Million Pound Game in the Super 8s Qualifiers.
"I needed a good year playing," Evans said.
"I hadn't played a full season for probably two or three years so I wanted to get down to London and get some good game time under my belt. I managed to do that.
"I've only missed a few games and that's given me the confidence now to rip in at this World Cup."
