Wales head coach John Kear signs new deal at club side Wakefield

Wales head coach John Kear has signed a new one-year deal with his club side Wakefield Trinity to continue as their head of rugby.

Kear, who has been Wales' head coach since 2014, joined the Trinity coaching staff for the 2017 season as the new head of rugby.

It is the second stint for Kear at Wakefield as he was previously the club's head coach, before moving to Batley Bulldogs in 2011.

Kear said on his new deal: “I am really pleased.

"I have got great affection for the club, as most people will know from my first stint here.

"I have enjoyed working with Michael [Carter], Chris [Chester] and the coaching staff this season, so I am really looking forward to next year.

“It is great to see how much we have improved on last season, but we still have plenty to do over the next six weeks.”

Trinity chairman Michael Carter commented: “I am delighted that John has agreed to commit for another season.

"His passion for this club and rugby league in general is there for all to see and he brings an experience to both myself and Chris that money cannot buy.

"The club is moving in the right direction and John is a big part of that.”

Once Wakefield's Super League season has concluded, he will lead Wales to the southern hemisphere for their Rugby League World Cup 2017 campaign.
