MEET THE TEAM: Josh Ralph

Next up in our MEET THE TEAM series is Josh Ralph, who was given a Wales call-up for the first time when he was announced in the 38-man train-on squad for the World Cup.

Born on the Gold Coast, Josh Ralph has always known rugby league and began to play the sport as young as the age of six.

As a junior, Ralph played predominantly for Ranaway Bay Seagulls, who are based in the northern end of the Gold Coast. He also had a spell with Nerang Roosters.

He played representative rugby league for Queensland at U15s schoolboys level and took part in both the Gold Coast Cyril Connell Cup and the Mal Meninga Cup.

At the age of 17, he was then picked up by NRL club Gold Coast Titans and played for two seasons in their U20s.

During his time with the Titans, he was again selected to represent Queensland, although it was in an older age group at U18s level.

In 2016, he featured heavily for the Titans' U20s and scored an impressive 13 tries in 12 appearances in the Holden Cup.

Ralph was on the move at the end of last season, though, and signed on the dotted line with fellow NRL club Newcastle Knights ahead of 2017.

Featuring for the Knights' U20s, he scored three tries in five matches and made a number of assists, keeping up his sound scoring record.

However, in the last week, he has moved back home to the Gold Coast and has joined Intrust Super Cup side Tweed Heads Seagulls, who are affiliated with the Titans.

Ralph, who is an exciting player at halfback, is extremely proud of his Welsh heritage and is eager to pull on the jersey.

"My grandmother was Welsh, so that's how I qualify," he said.

"Unfortunately, she passed away before I was born and when my dad was young, so it means a lot to both him and I.

"It has been a goal of mine for a while to play for Wales and the end goal was to play in the World Cup.

"If I were to be included in the final squad, I'd be delighted for sure."
