MEET THE TEAM: Dalton Grant

London Broncos winger Dalton Grant is the latest player to feature in our "MEET THE TEAM" series.

Born in Newport in South Wales, Dalton Grant played both rugby league and rugby union as a youngster.

He began playing union with Newport schools, before he was given a spot in the academy set-up at Pro12 club Newport Gwent Dragons.

It was at that point that he began playing rugby league. Along with a number of other current Wales internationals, he turned out for community club Newport Titans on a Sunday.

Due to his spell at the Titans, he transferred over to league permanently, signing for Celtic Crusaders and playing in their under 18 side that won the National Youth League in 2009. He scored 15 tries in 18 games in that campaign.

He went on to earn call-ups for Wales under 18s, where his tries led Wales to the 2008 U18 European Championships title and Great Britain Community Lions.

In 2010, he signed for South Wales Scorpions and was 18th man a few times in his first season, but didn't break into the side. In 2011, he became a regular and ended up playing in Super League by the end of the year, as he made one appearance while on loan at the old Crusaders RL club.

After scoring an impressive 32 tries in 46 appearances for the Scorpions during a three-year stint, Grant moved to then Championship club Barrow Raiders ahead of 2014.

Despite the Raiders' relegation to League 1 that year, the 27-year-old continued his solid try-scoring record and grabbed 18 in 28 matches.

It was his performances in 2014 that earned him a call-up to the Wales senior team in the autumn. He played against France and Ireland during Wales' European Championship campaign and crossed for one try.

Once he returned from international duty, he linked up with his new club Dewsbury Rams, who he had signed a deal for ahead of 2015.

The Rams had an impressive 2015 as they finished sixth in the Championship, missing out on a spot in the Super 8s, before coming second in the Championship Shield and reaching the semi-finals. Grant played his part and chipped in with 18 tries in 29 appearances.

Once again, his performances at club level ensured that he put himself in the frame for Wales selection.

And, during Wales' European Championship success in 2015, the winger played a key role as he scored tries in each of Wales' victories over Scotland, France and Ireland.

At club level, he continued to impress and scored 14 tries in 22 for Dewsbury during the 2016 season.

However, he opted to move elsewhere ahead of 2017 and joined the strong Wales contingent at London Broncos.

Unfortunately for Grant, an ankle injury meant that he couldn't play for Wales in the World Cup Qualifiers and has also seen him miss the earlier stages of 2017.

His ability on the wing is clear to see, particularly given the number of tries he scores, and he will be hoping to be on the plane to Australia come October, particularly now he has been named in the 38-man train-on squad.
