Cardiff RL celebrated victory in their first game at their new Memorial Ground home in Ely after beating Swindon St George 24-18 in a friendly.
The club, who have gone through a slight rebrand, are preparing for a new domestic season, which will be strengthened following the return of Valley Cougars, Torfaen Tigers and West Wales Raiders.
Cardiff’s friendly match, played for the majority in very wet and blustery conditions throughout gave both sides a useful runout before locking horns again at Swindon on April 2nd.
The Blue Dragons started the strongest and got their first try inside the first six minutes, a well worked overlap on the left hand side for Kane Evans to score near the posts, Lewis adding the conversion. A second try for Evans came from a scrum followed after Swindon handling errors gave away good field position in their own 20.
Swindon hit back with a try through Ben Bridson after a useful break. Further scores followed from Simon Price, Bridson and Sam Williams with a reply from loose forward Jake Thomas for the hosts kept them infront.
The try of the game came from Ryan Shallish, a well poised chip through the back line using the conditions well and strong chase in the final 20 to pick up and score in the corner.
Kyle Rose sealed the result right on full time to cap a highly competitive match.
